Bluma project designer and founder Beth Schaeffer hit the road for inspiration, developing a collection of Brooklyn designed and artisan made accessories. Working with top crafts people in Peru, India, and Guatemala, Beth has created a magical collection of global jewels that we can’t wait to wear. Dip-dyed earrings and necklaces with tassels galore are the styles we love for summer 2016. Read on about Beth’s journey and shop the entire collection of geo-gems from the Bluma Project.
Describe your brand.
Culturally inspired/Globally minded. Bluma Project is a Brooklyn-based contemporary jewelry and accessories company. While our collection is designed in Brooklyn, it is inspired by global culture and is produced by artisans in Peru, India, Guatemala and other developing nations. Those design elements are elevated for the fashion customer.
How, when, and where did you start your brand?
I started Bluma Project in 2010 after working with women artisans in Rwanda with another company and wanted to create a fashion brand that is made with artisans and is made by hand.
Speak about your previous work experience and how it helped you to create your own brand.
I am a former clothing designer and my fashion and design experience I think brings a different point of view to creating things with artisans globally. I also spent many years as a painter and color and pattern informs everything I do with design.
How does travel inspire your collection?
I am constantly exploring new places for how it inspires design for Bluma. This energizes me and is why I can always bring something new to the collection.
As your collection continues to grow, what creative endeavors are on the horizon?
We’ve added pillows and scarves to our bag and jewelry collections. Textiles are a big interest of mine so I’d like to expand in those areas. For fall, we are working in gold and silver for the first time and the possibilities are endless. Stay tuned!
