What is the overall style of the collection?
The style of the collection is bohemian chic. All the fabrics used are hand-dyed by women in the Congo, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
What encouraged you to start your own line and how did you go about doing so?
I wanted to start my own line in order to create something beautiful for women to wear that is also supporting women artisans around the world. The notion of conscious fashion really resonates with me and we started small creating a capsule collection that was sold into Barneys in 2008.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
The designs are inspired by the artisanal materials each piece is created from.
What do you find the most inspiring destination in the world?
I am always most inspired when I travel. For design, the most inspiring places I have been are probably Kenya, Cambodia, and Paris.
What is your own personal style?
My personal style is pretty laid back. I like things that are comfortable and flattering, easy elegance.
What is one of the best shopping finds you?ve had in your travels?
That might have been in Kenya where I bought a hand-beaded, all-white Maasai necklace with silver beads.
