Firstly, what are Paletas?

Paletas are Mexican ice pops made from all natural ingredients.

How does New York inspire your new/non-traditional paleta flavors?

My surroundings inspire me. The architecture, art, fashion and markets. The basis of our flavors is always Mexican but there are so many other elements that can be incorporated. I want to start creating lines of paletas in the way that fashion designers design collections.

Where are your secret spots for finding organic and fresh ingredients?

There are many spots in Queens, Harlem and Sunset Park for Mexican produce and the different greenmarkets and Essex market that offer fresh ingredients. I also go to Kalustyans for spices and specialty ingredients.

Where do you go to satisfy your sweet tooth?

I am surrounded by sweets so I only crave very specific items when it comes to sweets. I love chocolate chip cookies and love the ones at Bouchon and Chikalicious pudding shop.

What are your packing essentials for a trip to Mexico?

I am from Mexico City and that?s where I visit the most often. I always have my Moleskine notepad and tote bag, I always have a colorful market bag that I leave in Mexico and a pink scarf that is also a shawl. I am usually wearing a necklace made from red and black beans by women in a small village in the state of Campeche, it is so long I can tie it around myself in many ways. I just love it!

What are your top 3 picks from L-atitude?

To pick 3 is really tough. I love too many!!!
