How does travel inspire your collection?
Travel is my collection! I have loved traveling since I was a little girl. The idea of seeing new places, different cultures, and the adventure excites me to this day. For me, it was always about having the dream job and being able to mix travel with work while doing something I love and enjoy. I find inspiration in the elements -- the colors of the sunsets and sky, local flowers and spices, the sea and its glorious inhabitants... I am inspired everywhere I look!
Describe Amanda Marcucci in 3 words. And then tell us why you chose those words.
Color, Eclectic, Spiritual.
Color: For our vast range and color combinations. We love bright and bold. I think it's so important to wear bright colors especially in a gloomy, dark city like London where 90% of people wear black, grey and brown! Wearing color brings a smile to your face and it enhances your mood and the people around you. Color is life!
Eclectic: My designs come from very diverse sources. One minute I'm using large-statement Agates and semiprecious stones, and the next it's rosaries and finer pieces. I don't design to fit fashion trends, I design whatever comes to mind. They can follow me!
Spiritual: I love all the elements that make up a piece. With the Agates, it's not just about creating an Agate necklace. It's about what Agate represents -- its meaning and its healing powers. I love to learn about the ancient cultures, like The Mayans and Egyptians, that used these stones and why they used them. Having this knowledge makes the piece that much more special.
Your collection of products keeps growing, what creative endeavors are on the horizon?
It's difficult to say, every time I take a trip something new comes to mind. As a Gemini, I'm very impulsive, so at any moment an avalanche of ideas and designs flood into my head. I can say, however, that we are looking to expand into accessories.
Amanda in Tuscany
You've lived in Genova, Austin, Milan, and Paris. Which city do you most identify with and why?
That is a difficult question, each city has bought me to where I am today. These cities have given me inspiration and ideas. If I had to chooose, I would say I identify most with Austin, Texas because it's where I first became a lover of all things Turquoise and Navajo. I was only nine when I lived there -- my father would always take me to the reservation camps to buy trinkets and jewelery as it was important to buy directly from the American Indians. It's in Austin where I learned about Fair Trade as well. I was completely obsessed with their couture, jewelery, etc.. I was always running around with braids and feathers in my hair. I really wanted to be an Indian!
Why is your line unique? Tell us about your use of semiprecious stones.
To my knowledge, no other jewelery designer uses Agates in such a big way. The large Agate collection is especially unique because the stones are up to 11 centimeters in size!
Tell us about your favorite piece of jewelry (or one of them) and where you were when you got inspired to create it.
At the moment, I'm in love with our Mexican Rosaries. The variety of colors and styles make them a great selection for a layered beach look. The beach is where I spend most of my time.
How would you describe your own style? Name the three staples of your wardrobe you could never live without.
My style is a mixture of Italian luxury and Boho street. As a Gemini, my mood and style change from day to day. My three staples would be:
Necklaces -- I always need a selection of necklaces from everyday to luxury.
Walking Shoes -- I love a good pair of stylish yet comfy walking shoes because I walk everywhere, especially when I'm on work trips. I love discovering.
Black Dress -- Every woman needs a simple, sexy black dress that can be dressed up or down.
Your collection has a strong global vibe - What are some of your favorite cities to visit and why?
Mexico City -- I love this city because of the people, culture, colors, food, and vibe. It has everything to inspire one's imagination.
Livorno -- This is the seaside town where my father was born and it's also where I spent many long summers growing up. It's full of lush Italian style, well-dressed people, and amazing boutiques.
Paris -- The flea markets in this city are always a great place to get ideas past and present, and the city offers such a diverse sense of style and fashion.
What are some of the destinations on your bucket list?
I'm slightly obsessed with South America! Some destinations I'd love to visit are Argentina, Peru, and Costa Rica. I'd also like to get to China, Japan, and Santorini.
How would you describe your travel style?
Casual Boho. I love my plain little tan sandals, stacks of bracelets, and jeans with a white T.
Which travel plans are you most excited about?
I'm going back to my hometown in Italy for a few weeks of work, shopping, and beach. I love it when it's quiet out there!
