After stints in Paris and London, artist and globetrotter Tatiana de Pahlen now calls Geneva, Switzerland home. As one of the founding members of Fast Forward, Tatiana's days are filled with curating, publishing, and promoting young and established artists as well as making art of her own. We recently caught up with this jetsetter and asked her to share tips on her style and favorite destinations around the globe.
What do you love most about the city you live in?
My work requires me to travel quite often so Geneva is the perfect base. This quiet and peaceful city allows me to focus on work with no distraction.
My favorite local restaurants are Nagomi, which is a minimal and simple but has the best Japanese in town. I also love restaurant Auberge de Dully, which is known for their chicken and tarte ? la cr?me. Last but not least, Tristan for chocolate in Bougy Villars.
Nagomi: 47 Rue de Zurich, Geneva 1201, Switzerland (P?quis-Temple), 022 732 38 28. Auberge de Dully: Place du Village 9, 1195 Dully, Switzerland, +41 21 824 11 49. Tristan: 1172 Bougy-Villars, Switzerland, +41 21 807 21 25.
What is a typical (if there is such a thing) day like in your life on the road or at home?
Everyday is different from the next but I always start my day by listening to music.
Name three of your favorite shopping destinations anywhere in the world?
- Venice, for the Friulane shoes.
- Jaipur, for the jewels at Gem Palace.
- Gstaad, for home furniture from La Verand?anne.
La Verand?anne: Kirchstrasse, 3780 Gstaad, Switzerland,+41 33 744 20 02
What is your favorite item you have ever been given while on a trip?
A good luck bracelet given to me by a friend.
Where do you like to shop while traveling?
I believe it is important to value local crafts and small businesses. Most of the old techniques are being lost so I try and shop in family-owned businesses that promote artisanal handicrafts.
Describe the last exotic trip you took.
I just got back from Rajasthan, India. It is a a must-see destination for everyone. You will never get bored of the colors, chaotic order, and over-the-top architecture.
What is the next exotic trip you have in mind?
Hong Kong for Art Basel.
What are you coveting from L-atitude?
