Shopping Guide: Rio De Janeiro with Dree Hemingway

Dree Hemingway joined Shop Latitude on our quest for authentic treasures from the world's best marketplaces.  Our destination was Rio de Janeiro - land of sizzling hot bodies, tiny swimsuits, and the best 70s style fashion and architecture.

Our first stop was Ipanema's famed Feira Hippie Market.  Only open on Sunday, this bustling market is ground zero for retro chic, a place where patchwork cowhide bean bags, macrame chairs, and feather earrings abound.  Channeling her family's famous 70's fashion style, Dree wore a mash-up of classic boho picks for our shopping day.

"I love the eclectic mix of products at this market," Dree says. "My favorite look is to combine the old and new from around the world.  Today, I wore an Indian peasant blouse, Preekka Greek sandals, and a mochila bag from Shop Latitude, with my beloved vintage suede skirt."

We spent hours strolling the stalls and munching on Cuscuz tapioca, a traditional Brazilian sweet.  Sufficiently sated, we headed to the ultra-chic boutiques of Leblon, Rio's answer to New York City's West Village. After browsing at Poeira, a one-stop design mecca overflowing with a mix of pillows, poufs, and custom-designed surfboards, we wandered next door to Granado, where Dree exclaimed, "This is my favorite shop! It's a cross between Kiehl's and my favorite Italian brand, Santa Maria Novella. I'm in heaven."

Leblon

Leblon is our favorite place to hang out in Rio. This leafy neighborhood feels like a glamorous village filled with the city's best low key restaurants and designer boutiques. The vibe is more West Village than Fifth Avenue. After you're finished shopping, plan to spend the afternoon munching on organic salad at one of the many outdoor cafes.
