How does travel inspire your collection?

For me, traveling is when you deliberately take yourself out of your day-to-day so life so that all of a sudden you think differently and gain new perspectives. Everyday things become new discoveries. When I travel, I become child-like -- seeing, smelling, tasting, and hearing -- because everything is new and exciting! Traveling allows me to see the world. I process all this new information via my prints and designs.

Describe the Lissy Verkade brand in 3 words.

Comfort, Style, Happiness.

Comfort is the material and how it feels against your skin. Style is the way you wear something and make it your own. Happiness is the perfect combination of both.

Your collection of products keeps growing. What creative endeavors are on the horizon?

More prints, collaborations, and beach wear.

Who is your muse? Describe the woman who wears Lissy Verkade.

The woman who wears Lissy Verkade is big-hearted and adventurous. She enjoys life and is always curious.

Tell us about your favorite piece (or one of them) and where you were inspired to create it.

One of the first scarves I designed was called "Sky scarf?. It was made by collaging the sky and sunset pictures from my honeymoon when we drove down the west coast of California in a Winnebago! We have many beautiful memories from that trip, and the collaging became a technique that I returned to again in other designs.

What are your upcoming summer travel plans?

I'm going to spend a month in the jungle in Costa Rica being a fruit bat!

Globetrotter Stats

Souk or Department Store?

Sigh! If only souks had changing rooms. Department stores are great for escaping weather conditions but souks are still the best.

DIY or Concierge Service?

Concierge first - if that fails, DIY.

Buy Everything or Buy Nothing?

Depends on which personality I'm wearing - it could be either.

Camping or 5-Star Hotel?

Camping, followed by a 5-star hotel at the end. I need a night of pillows and pampering!

Drive or be Driven?

In the city, I need to be driven, otherwise it's a mess. But I love to drive on long journeys. I also like trains, especially when I'm traveling internationally.

Room service or Street Food?

Street food in between room service in between street food.

Lots of Luggage or Carry-on Bag?

I wish I was a carry-on-bag-kind-of-girl - I used to be! Now I pack for every eventuality for me and anyone with me. It's a heavy affair!
