Congratulations to Denise Wood from Alabama for winning our Morocco sweepstakes! This lucky winner took her daughter along for a magical trip to Marrakesh courtesy of Shop Latitude, La Mamounia Hotel, Indagare, and Royal Air Maroc! Read what she will remember most!
What was your favorite part about your trip to Morocco?
My favorite part of the Morocco trip was hiring a driver from La Mamounia to drive us up the Atlas Mountains. We met many Berbers in their daily life, learned about their culture, and enjoyed their warm welcomes. The scenery was breathtaking -- the citrus, Argan, and olive trees were beautiful. I also loved the pretty streams and mountains where Berbers picked and collected their essentials for daily life. We also bought handmade jewelry from a Berber family we met on our drive.
What was your best shopping find and where did you discover it?
My best shopping find was handmade jewelry from a Berber family we met on our drive. They also let us tour their home and explained their daily life in the mountains.
Why was La Mamounia Hotel so special?
La Mamounia Hotel was fabulous. The concierge was incredible at arranging everything we wanted to do. Our garden suite was beautiful! The bed and luxurious bedding was great. The amazing staff service is my favorite part about the hotel.
What was the most memorable part of your guided tour courtesy of Indagare Travel?
The most memorable part of my trip from Indagare Travel was the guided tour of the Souks, as we met so many wonderful people there, and learned so much about their handcrafts, as well as their culture. Our cooking class at La Maison Arabe was also the most wonderful time! The cook taught us how to prepare an entire Moroccan meal. We even made bread and walked to the town baker to bake it in a huge clay oven. My favorite recipe was the vegetable Tagine, which I will definitely be making at home!
Which three items did you wear most from Shop Latitude?
The L-Atitude clothes we wore most were the Tambourine blue silk cow print caftan, which I wore at The Majorelle Gardens. The sun caftans Le Sirenuse were great to wear because they were cool, comfortable, and kept me covered. The LIDO white embroidered top was great to wear with my long skirts!
What recipe from your private cooking class at La Maison Arabe will you be using most at home?
Our cooking class at La Maison Arabe was the most wonderful time! The cook taught us how to prepare an entire Moroccan meal. We even made bread and walked to the town baker to bake it in a huge clay oven. My favorite recipe was the vegetable Tagine, which I will definitely be making at home!
How was the food? Can you describe your favorite meal and where it was?
The food in Morocco is exciting and flavorful. The best meal we had was the one we prepared at La Maison Arabe. The meal consisted of three cold salad dishes, couscous, vegetable tajine, fresh bread, and mint tea. This was a delicious meal fit for a king!
Do you have any packing tips for our readers?
My packing tips for Morocco are to pack loose-fitting, cool, comfortable clothes and shoes. Longer skirts and dresses, and shirt sleeves that reach the elbows are the socially preferred attire. We were happy to honor their religious and cultural beliefs, and by doing so we found the people of Morocco to be very warm and welcoming.
This was a once in a lifetime trip that could never be duplicated, and one that my daughter and I will cherish forever. My daughter just started her career as a teacher, and she feels this trip was educational and useful to her in her teaching career. My daughter and I am so grateful for having the most amazing vacation of a life time by winning the trip to Morocco from L-Atitude. We loved every second of every day of this trip. Thank you very much to all the sponsors of my Morocco trip!
