Globetrotter | Andrea Kolb of Abury

One of our favorite destinations, Morocco, entrances all of its visitors with a sense of mystery and style. We are always on the look out for these enduring qualities in the globetrotters that we feature. Andrea Kolb, the founder of Abury is top on our list of stylish explorers. Andrea has covered plenty of ground while working with local artisans in both Morocco and Ecuador to create contemporary treasures from ancient craft. We recently caught up with Andrea and asked her to share her favorite haunts in her hometown of Berlin and adopted city of Marrakesh.

How would you describe your personal style? Who, what or where is the inspiration behind your style?

My style is very simple, straightforward and casual. I love monochrome,  so I have the blue section, the brown section, the green, the black, the white. I love to add a colorful highlight with an accessory, like a bag. Regarding inspiration, I am surrounded by lots of colors and patterns every day and I love it, but also it is kind of overwhelming, so I just like it clean and simple in my closet.

How does travel influence your style?

I sometimes get adventurous and inspired by colorful traditional textures and patterns and even wear them when I am travelling. It is inspiring to experiment and adapt in different cultures, but that doesn?t change my style at home in general. I love to find traditional or special accessories that bring a bit more tension and a break from the classical look.

What city do you have an endless love affair with?

London. I first arrived twenty years ago after a 24-hour bus ride from Germany with two sports bags, one full with my stereo. Even before I lived there, I dreamt of it and also after. It never stopped, I just feel so home in this city.

Can you share your top three favorite spots for eating, drinking, and shopping in your hometown?

In Berlin?

Pappa e ciccia is a great Italian restaurant around the corner of our shop (Prenzlauerberg) that offers organic, local ingredients combined with homemade pasta or creatively arranged salads in an inspired and cozy environment!

For a nightcap I love going to a small bar in Kreuzberg, which seems to be always open when I need it. They have an area where you can lounge, meaning taking your shoes off and lie on the floor on cushions, drinking your gin tonic.

For Shopping -  the Mauerpark Fleamarket on Sundays!
