The exchange of cultures is a constant Shop Latitude inspiration. We have been known to mix our wears, whether they originate from Mexico, Hong Kong or France. We seek out designers that embody this cross-cultural blend and Oumaima Tamarzizt is one of those. Beginning her journey in her home country of Tunisia, the jewelry designer now lives in Paris where she designs her namesake collection. For inspiration, she draws upon her rich heritage, a culture that is well known for its symbolic use of jewelry. We recently caught up with Oumaima on the story behind Tamarzizt.
Describe your brand:
Tamarzizt is a young brand aimed at modern and chic women around the world. In essence, voyages, world cultures, people and colors inspire Tamarzizt. There is a lot of femininity and intricate details in the collection with unique and timeless designs. Each season, a fashion statement collection really stands out and allows women to express themselves.
How and when did you start your brand?
I launched Tamarzizt in 2012 after three years of working as a freelance designer for well-known French luxury brands. I felt that to gain freedom and really express myself, I had to launch my own brand.
Speak about your previous work experience and how it helped you to create your own brand?
What (or who?) are some of your endless inspirations?
My inspirations come from my Tunisian origins, my work in France and my voyages and moreover the people I have met during my travels. These moments are rich with emotion and cultural differences.
How does travel inspire your collection?
It has been a long journey from my home country of Tunisia to settle in Paris. I get my inspirations from a mix of Eastern and Western cultures, my origins and the people I met throughout this everlasting journey. All of these circumstances lead to the exploration and discovery of new cultures and their uniqueness helps me create and share my mindset.
If you work with artisans or craftspeople, tell us about how this came about and a bit about the process?
It is always very exciting to work with craftspeople and artisans because they are the hands behind the drawings. They bring our ideas to life. I still learn a lot from them and they help me to grow the brand.
Your collection continues to grow, what creative endeavors are on the horizon?
Carving the DNA and spirit of Tamarzizt.
