Handcrafted of pure sheep?s wool, these eco-chic bags showcase distinctive patterns inspired by the natural beauty of the local mountain ranges of Columbia. We recently caught up with Sandra and asked her to share her experience of working with these incredible artisans.
How does travel inspire your collection?
I?m always fascinated by the unpredictability of nature?s beauty when I travel. My recent trip to the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Santa Marta, Colombia inspired by first collection. I?ve graciously had the opportunity to work closely with an indigenous tribe in order to design and curate these beautiful hand-woven bags made from unprocessed sheep?s wool, maintaining the upmost traditional color palette.
Describe the Mochila Mochila by FREAY brand.
Bold, earthy and handmade. It stems from the love of my native country that has such a rich culture in the traditional, bright buildings, the natural beauty and the incredible craftsmanship of its native people. These characteristics have been embedded in this country for generations and are clearly reflected in my designs.
Your collection of products keeps growing. What creative endeavors are on the horizon?
My next design direction for the mochilas will introduce colors made in the same sheep?s material but in more vibrant colors.
Describe the woman who wears Mochila Mochila by FREAY.
A Bohemian Traveler like Erin Wasson. She is no fuss but yet she?s still style conscious.
Tell us about your favorite piece.
It is difficult to pick a favorite because all designs have a unique personality, feminine enough for women, but also classic for men.
What are your upcoming travel plans?
I?m planning a trip to Colombia with the family and working on a future collection.
