Banjanan designer Caroline Weller shares her favorite three tips for having the best sunday morning adventure in Jaipur- the city she know calls home. Caroline’s first advice- “Get up Early your are in Jaipur for heaven's sake!"
1. 7.30 am: a walk in the Araveli hills behind Amber Fort. A stones throw from the throng of tourists at the fort, you’ll find the most magical walk in Jaipur. Head to the Anokhi Museum, go through the big gate, turn left up the hill past the monkeys and the temple, turn right along the lake and follow it around. After seventy meters look for painted rocks on the right side and follow the path up into the hills. You’ll be rewarded by majestic views of Amber with castellated walls running over ridges between the three forts of Amber, Nagarh and Tiger. Except for a few goats and maybe a goatherd, you won’t see a soul. A rare moment of silence and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
2. 10am: You’ll deserve to put your feet up by now. Drop into the wonderful and sensitively renovated Anokhi. The Haveli houses the Anokhi print archive and hosts block print exhibits. There's a simple café in the courtyard where you can sit in the shade and sip a cool Nimbu Panni (lime water). Go to the top floor and try your hand at block printing under the guidance of Chacha who will win you over with his charm and photogenic looks!
3. 12 noon: Head for lunch at Mosaics Guesthouse, it’s a 10 minute drive away. Your host Herve has his mosaic studio here, and has created a little oasis. Wonderful home cooked food served on the rooftop terrace might keep you here longer than lunch and well into the afternoon!
