When travel blogger Hazal Yilmaz talks, we listen. When she told us about Naftalin Vintage in the historic neighborhood of Fener, we were thrilled. Naftalin is the eclectic kind of secondhand shop that retro enthusiasts of every stripe will appreciate. It's loaded with clothes, accessories, furniture, decor, posters and knickknacks from the 1950s to the 1990s - including a selection of hats and sunglasses that made us swoon. Every collector of vintage goods knows antiquing is hard work, so once you've struck gold, cross the road and take a seat at Naftalin Cafe. With its vintage vibes, vegetarian comfort foods and array of coffees and teas you'll be inspired to keep digging.

Jaipur is the capital of gemstones and always full of tourist places. The best place to shop for jewelry is Tholia Kuber, on MI Road (Tholia Building, +91 14 12 37 27 90). It’s not a glamorous place that would be featured in the magazines. It's small, understated, and kind of a secret among people who know jewelry.

I love a casual walk around San Telmo on a week day, when the streets are empty and stores tranquil. Lo de Vicky is a cute small shop just off the Plaza, where you can find very affordable vintage pieces (I bought this wedding dress for $30 US!). For a more upscale Vintage shop, go to Gil Antiguedades (ei, Gaucho hat for $200 US but be aware of the nasty owner, who will try to charge you extra after hearing a foreign accent).

Las Pallas is one of my favorites shops, it houses the folk art collection of long time Peruvian resident (44 years) Mary Solari. If you are lucky enough to visit when Mary is there, she will tell you stories about the artisan produced wares she sells from all over Peru. Lady Mary is feisty, knowledgeable opinionated and has great taste-what could be better!
